Our Team

Candice Sloan, Pastor

The Reverend Dr. Candice Sloan came to Hopewell United Methodist Church from Spartanburg Methodist College, where she served as the Chaplain since 2002.

Prior to 2002, Candice served Bethlehem UMC (1989-1995), Bethlehem-Panola UMCs (1995-98), Panola UMC (1998-2000), and Lupo Memorial-Panola UMCs (2000-02).

Candice holds the B.A. degree in Psychology from Southwestern University (Georgetown, Texas), the M.Div. degree from Duke University Divinity School (Durham, NC), and the D.Min. degree from Wesley Theological Seminary (Washington, D.C.)

We are glad to have Pastor Candice at Hopewell UMC along with her husband Joe. Candice and Joe have two adult sons, Ben and Will.


Linda Bowers, Secretary

Family – Married to Junior Bowers. Has a BIG FAMILY of love, which holds them together.

Pets: Had two dogs who have gone to Heaven and two cats that were adopted. Now they have a beautiful aquarium!

Hobbies: Gardening, Helping husband with his classic cars, Spending quiet evenings sitting on the deck with Junior enjoying family.

Church: Antioch Baptist Church

Favorite Bible Verse: Philippians 4: 6-7. “Do not be anxious about anything, in every situation pray and present your requests to God. The Peach of God which transcends all understanding will guide your hearts.”

Words of Wisdom: Your “Word” is your honor. Praise God everyday for your many blessings.

Favorite Part of Your Job:  Feeling the love of this church and feeling filled with God’s Spirit when I work for Him! Also hearing Candice sing when she’s in the office. ☺️


Denise Outen, Treasurer

Family – Laura Bruce Outen (sister) and Detra Townsend and her family (sister)

Pets: Normandy (Cat)

Hobbies: Travel, Movies, Watching TV, Teaching Sunday School

Church: Hopewell United Methodist Church

Favorite Bible Verses: Philippians 4: 13 “I can do all things through Him who gives me strength.” and Matthew 19:26 “Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

Margaret Page, Music Director

Family – Married to the late Sam K Page for 50 years; Has 3 daughters: Tricia P. Barfield, Donna P. Shelby, and Amanda P. Newell; 4 Grandchildren: Jenson, Kaylee, Connor, and Ian.

Pets: Sawyer, a Border Collie

Hobbies: Music, Movies, Crossword Puzzles, Sudoku

Church: Hopewell United Methodist Church

Favorite Bible Verse: Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you, and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Favorite Part of Your Job: I enjoy all aspects of my job and consider it a privilege to serve God and Hopewell United Methodist Church as a the Music Director! If I had to pick one favorite part of my job it would be the actual presentation of the Christmas Cantata each year.


Terri Robinson, Organist/Pianist

Family – Married to Jimmy Robinson

Pets: 2 Dogs (Abby and Ginger), 16 chickens (who all have names also!!)

Hobbies: Reading, Gardening, Crochet, Wood Working, Jigsaw Puzzles

Church: Hopewell United Methodist Church

Karen Griffin, Sexton

Family – Married to Danny Steen

Pets: No pets.

Hobbies: Working on the family farm

Church: Spring Hill Baptist Church

Words of Wisdom: Live life everyday as if it were your last. Treat others as you want to be treated. Love everyone.


Favorite Part of Your Job:  Proud to be a part of such a wonderful church family.

Billy Williams, Worship Media Presenter, and Church Council Chairman

Billy has been a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church for 15 years and is the current Church Council Chairperson.  He also controls the media presentation each Sunday as well as the Facebook Live video feed. Billy is very active in our church and has taught elementary age Sunday School Classes and worked with the COOL Club. Currently, he is teaching the Middle School Sunday School Class and works with our UMYF and is the Co-Chairperson of our Youth Ministries.


Richard Duncan, Sound Manager

Family – one of 10 children of Burke & Iva Duncan. Four Brothers and Three Sisters are still a big part of his life. One brother and one sister have passed away.

Pets: No pets

Hobbies: Working on old cars and Bowling

Church: Hopewell United Methodist Church

Favorite Bible Verse: John 3: 16-17 – “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world but to save the world through Him.”

Words of Wisdom: Treat people as you would have them treat you. You cannot out give God. He has been good to all of us

Favorite Part of Your Job:  Using the gifts that God has given me to help the church, and the fellowship I get from it.
